The vitality of the Department of Chemistry at Rutgers University–Camden has never been greater. Research thrusts within the Department touch upon all of the major sub-disciplines.

Forensic, biochemistry and cheminformatics faculty solve grand challenges associated with next-generation diagnostic tools, material-based therapies, and chemical toxicity. Environmental, organic and materials chemistry faculty seek to use natural materials such as cellulose and silk fibers to engineer materials with extraordinary mechanical properties, good biological compatibility, and biodegradability while synthesizing and characterizing several conducting polymers or novel fluorocarbons for specific device applications.
