Building Careers with Departmental Research & Teaching Positions
Assistantships and Part-time Lectureships are available to M.S. and upper level B.S. Chemistry students.
M.S. in Chemistry incoming and current students are encouraged to apply to these part-time positions, which can be found on the Rutgers HR website. Please indicate the anticipated date of degree on your C.V. Interviews typically occur in the months of April – June.
Positions
Part-time Research Laboratory Assistant
Duties:
- Complete an independent research project under the guidance and direction of the project’s Principal Investigator
- Maintain laboratory equipment related to the project (i.e., GC-MS, sequencers, CE, AFM, etc.)
- Follow or generate standard operating laboratory procedures
- Perform scientific data analysis
- Prepare reports or publications
- Attend national scientific and technical meetings and present findings
Part-time Lecturer: Chemical Principles Laboratory
Duties:
- Under the guidance and direction of the Undergraduate Director, teach a 3 hour laboratory course on Chemical Principles
- Assist students during lab exercises, as needed
- Assist in chemical waste management
- Prepare and set-up the lab stations each week and maintain laboratory organization and cleanliness
- Attend weekly review session with Undergraduate Director
- Grade laboratory assignments and reports according to the rubric provided by the Undergraduate Director of Chemistry
Part-time Lecturer: Organic Chemistry Laboratory
Duties:
- Under the guidance and direction of the Undergraduate Director, teach a 3 hour laboratory course on Organic Chemistry
- Assist students during lab exercises, as needed
- Assist in chemical waste management
- Prepare and set-up the lab stations each week and maintain laboratory organization and cleanliness
- Attend weekly review session with Undergraduate Director
- Grade laboratory assignments and reports according to the rubric provided by the Undergraduate Director of Chemistry
Part-time Reagent or Course Assistant
Duties:
- Prepare the reagents for the Chemical Principles and Organic Chemistry Laboratories
- Clean glassware and maintain cleanliness of the laboratory
- Assist with the preparation of laboratory exercises prior to class
- Assist with data processing or chemical inventory, if needed
